Korean Traditonal 1st Birthday Party

I am friends with one of my younger students mother, and she invited me and another English teacher to her sons 1st birthday party. I already knew about the traditional celebration of turning one years old because my uncle married a Korean and our family celebrated her sons ( my cousin's) first birthday party in the Korean traditional way. But it was James first time in experiencing it and he loved it. Today at the party was so much fun. There was a lot of good food, buffet style and we weren't use to eating that much..jaja because we have been use to eating small portions. The little boy knew that today was a special day, and he loved all the attention. In part of the Korean birthday celebration, everyone goes to a large table with drinking glasses that have different labels on them. Labels such as money, art, sports, computer and other things. The guests of the party guesses by putting a piece of paper in a glass they think the baby will pick. So they pulled out a tray of objects such as money, pencil ( which is under the art category), and ect. Everyone said Hana, Dul Sed....in english that means 1, 2, 3..and then they put the tray in front of the baby. The baby had tons of smiles and went straight for the tray and grabbed a pencil. So there you go guys, the little boy will grow up and be an artist or a teacher..we will see. Check out the videos and pics of the party.

2010 World Cup:South Korea vs Greece

The past few days it has been humid and sticky, but the day that James and I meet his soccer team at the City Hall in Seoul it rains...jaja. Today the metro was packed with people, and everyone wearing the color red, representing their country. It reminds us of 2006 World Cup in Germany, when we saw the Semi Final game, France vs Portugal. We so wish we were in South Africa, but we are still excited to be in a different country and celebrate the World Cup in the Korean Culture.

The minute we exit the metro, we could hardly move. Thousands of people blowing their horns, waving their flag, and also wearing headbands with devil horns. City Hall is a large area, but 3 hours before the game, there was already hundreds of people. They had 4 large TV screens, but we couldn't see them well because everyone had their umbrellas up, and poking each other in the eye when they pass through..jaja. There was also a lot of TV crew, and the minute we exit the metro james and I were filmed cheering for South Korea...OLLEH, that is what they say.

Of course, the night ended well by South Korea winning!!!

It was a lot of fun. We took a lot of pictures and videos, so check them out.

Lotus Lantern Festival and American Army Base

It has been a while since I wrote a diary entry..jajaj sorry, we have been busy with soccer and school.

It is finally now getting warmer by the day, the summer weather here is humidity....i know what you are thinking..jaja. I miss the dry heat in Arizona. This past sunday, May 16, James international soccer team went to play at the American Army base. When entering, we had to bring and ID or a passport. It was pretty cool because even though the base is in South Korea, it felt like we were traveling back to the U.S. When entering the base, we were on American soil, and the houses were made like if they were built in the U.S. They had fast foods, restaurants, theaters, schools for kids and more. While the boys were warming up, the girls and I decided to get water for the boys. So when we were walking, we felt like we were tourists..jajaj. When we entered Burger King, we all felt confused because their is soo much variety, but Burger king in Korea is so simple and easy, like 5 choices. I was so use to eating healthy Korean food, that looking at fast food didn't look as good.

May 21, which was yesterday was Buddhas Bday. I am guessing he is pretty old. Last Friday we went to a Lotus Lantern Festival, and it was beautiful. The lantern festival was to celebrate Buddhas Bday. We have pictures and videos. So check it out!!. We are loving South Korea. One of our friends from our church works with different orphanages in Korea. There is like 8 Christian orphanages that also has soccer camps for kids. James and I are going to get involved with an orphanage, and we are excited.

Our First Post

I never thought that creating and developing a blog can be work..jajaj. Well I have found a blog that can hold up pictures, videos, and writing comments for everyone to see. Let me update everyone. James and I love traveling to different parts of the world together. We have been to Spain, Italy, Germany, Mexico and now South Korea. God has opened the doors for James and I to move to South Korea and teach for a year. Everything came into place, and now we are living in this beautiful place. We live in a city called Bucheon, which is 40 minutes away from Seoul. James works at a middle school called "Bucheon Middle School." I work at an elementary school called " Bucheon Elementary School." Our schools are literally 10 minutes away from each other. Teaching is a new experience for both of us, but we are loving every minute of it. James teachers 24 classes, but it is split up throughout the week. I teach all 5th grade classes in the morning, which I see them twice a week, and it is also split up throughout the week. Then I have 6 afternoon classes, teaching the kids that are split up into their level of teaching. For my afternoon classes, I have 1st grader thru 6th grade. I love it, they are adorable. James and I are learning more korean words everyday. James brother Anthony did a movie in Korea and made some friends. We got connected with one of his friends and James was able to get involved in an international soccer team. Every Sunday he has a game in a different area in Korea.

When we first arrived it was freezing....and it was suppose to be spring, but everyone thinks that global warming kicked in. Now its May and we have lived here for about a month in a half..wow time flys by fast. It is now getting warmer by the day..i mean humidity..yes I know what you are thinking..jaja. James and I are blessed that God has brought us here. We are also thankful because one of my friends that I went to school with in Spain lives in Korea, and he told me about this Christian church. We are now attending this church called Jubilee Seoul. If you want to check out the website go to www.jubileeseoul.com

The church's focus is missions, children and community. The ages rang from 22 - 39 years old. There are Koreans and tons of foreigners from around the world. Our next step is now to get involved in an orphanage.
