Korean Traditonal 1st Birthday Party

I am friends with one of my younger students mother, and she invited me and another English teacher to her sons 1st birthday party. I already knew about the traditional celebration of turning one years old because my uncle married a Korean and our family celebrated her sons ( my cousin's) first birthday party in the Korean traditional way. But it was James first time in experiencing it and he loved it. Today at the party was so much fun. There was a lot of good food, buffet style and we weren't use to eating that much..jaja because we have been use to eating small portions. The little boy knew that today was a special day, and he loved all the attention. In part of the Korean birthday celebration, everyone goes to a large table with drinking glasses that have different labels on them. Labels such as money, art, sports, computer and other things. The guests of the party guesses by putting a piece of paper in a glass they think the baby will pick. So they pulled out a tray of objects such as money, pencil ( which is under the art category), and ect. Everyone said Hana, Dul Sed....in english that means 1, 2, 3..and then they put the tray in front of the baby. The baby had tons of smiles and went straight for the tray and grabbed a pencil. So there you go guys, the little boy will grow up and be an artist or a teacher..we will see. Check out the videos and pics of the party.
